Organic dairy means dairy produced at organic standards. This means cows living outside as much of the year as possible, eating grass, and being less than their conventional counterparts (yields are around 25% lower than in intensive production, according to the Soil Association). Many farms we work with are moving to mixed herd models, where calves remain with their mothers and bull calves are reared for beef rather than disposed of as in many contemporary farming systems. Supporting small scale organic cheese producers means better welfare for herds that make this fantastic cheese possible. Organic dairy is also higher in some key nutrients, including omega-3 fatty acids.
